Nocturne
At night we experience nature differently. Without the distraction of brilliant colour, our eyes begin to notice subtler things: the quiet movement of a bird through the branches, the gentle reflection of moonlight across water, the delicate rhythm of leaves and flowers emerging from the darkness. I wanted this painting to unfold in the same way. Rather than revealing itself immediately, it rewards patience, allowing details and narratives to emerge gradually the longer you remain within it.
As with all of my paintings, Nocturne begins with admiration for the extraordinary inventiveness of the natural world, before imagination gently takes over. I wasn't interested in creating a scene that felt surreal or unfamiliar. Instead, I wanted to create a place that feels entirely believable while existing just beyond reality—a world shaped by nature but gently reimagined through painting. It is in that delicate balance, somewhere between observation and invention, that I find the greatest freedom to create.
There are countless stories woven throughout this painting, but I have no desire to point them out. Part of the pleasure is discovering them for yourself. Every bird, every butterfly, every flower and every quiet interaction contributes to a living ecosystem that can never be fully explored in a single visit. I hope that every time someone returns to this painting, another connection quietly reveals itself, another story begins to unfold, and the world becomes just a little richer than it appeared before.
For me, Nocturne is ultimately about atmosphere. It is about creating a place that feels calm, immersive and endlessly inviting—a world where time seems to slow and curiosity quietly takes over. I hope it offers a moment of stillness in an increasingly hurried world, encouraging you to linger, to wander without expectation, and to lose yourself in a place where imagination and the natural world exist in complete harmony.
